Eating out

Nearby

Pizzas from our local Volce pub 100 metres away.

Locally at Zatolmin.  A wholesome Slovenian meal with salad, steak, dessert and wine for under 25 euros for two people!!

In Tolmin 2 kilometres away we can recommend Na Placu which has pizza and Slovenia food. The restaurant is in the main shopping side street.

Udine Piazza Italy shopping and coffee.
Join the locals and relax in the Piazza for a quiet coffee.  Check out the multitude of great restaurants after a enjoying the stunning Italian fashion shops.

In the Soca valley

For good value Slovenian food try Gostilna Breza on a side street Muceniska Ulica17 in Kobarid is less than 15 minutes up the road.
Also the seafood restaurant on the right corner as you drive in to Kobarid centre.

Bovec has two restaurants we use;
The first is in the main street in the middle of town, it has pizza and a range of unusual meats such as deer, bear, even crocodile!
great after a morning skiing at Kanin.
The second Gostilna Ribic has good food although a bit more expensive.  They also have a good B&B.

We avoid Hisa Franko just outside Kobarid which is eye-wateringly expensive for our area (twice the price of the superb Al Parco in Italy).

The Soca River

Italy's Friuli Region is only 20 minutes away with its vineyards and superb restaurants.

Visit the riverside restaurant Al Vescovo in the tiny village of Pulfero just over the Italian border only 25 minutes away via Kobarid, great food at a reasonable price..

For a superb meal visit Al Monastero in Cividale del Friuli, Italy, 35 minutes away, again via Kobarid.

We consider Trattoria Al Parco, Buttrio in Italy one of the best restaurants around. They make their own excellent wine, mostly exported to USA.  The cost of about 60 - 70 euros for two people with wine makes them one of the dearest around here but worth it.
Takes about an hour to get there but we usually do some shopping in Italy on the way.

Going south there is Trattoria Alla Luna in Via Guglielmo Oberdan, Gorizia, Italy which has traditional Slovenian food and specializes in a variety of hams to have if you just duck in for a drink.  About 40 minutes away down the Soca Valley.

We found a simple "Hostaria" in Monfalcone, on the way to Trieste.  Very limited menu but good food and wine for 13 euros each.  Hostaria al Refolo, on Via IX Giugno 69, close to the centre of town.
