Buying Property in Slovenia

Slovenia is now part of the EU.

I found buying my house in Slovenia very simple.

It only took 5 days!!
In fact we could have moved in within a day but it took the 5 days for the Sovenian tax office to issue me with a tax number which is required before you buy.

I had a Solicitor in town handle the transaction and he did all the work.

He applied for the two numbers you need, an Emso number and tax number.
He also provided the contract.
The land registry is all on computer at the local office so it is very simple.
At settlement he transferred the money directly from my account to the seller.
There was a small amount of tax to pay and it was all done.

Slovenia is now part of the EU.

It uses the euro.  We have found the people here very friendly.
The younger Slovenians all seem to speak English as do many of the older people.
We have no problem getting by with only English.

The country is very sophisticated and I believe has a higher living standard than say rural France.

Locally produced food and products are much cheaper than elsewhere in Europe.  Our favourite local Gostilina (pub) at Zatolmin has meals with entre, main, dessert, and wine for about £15, and that is chosen off the menu.  The daily special is about half that!

The part I like about the local food is that it all fresh and usually seasonal.
